My full name is Hastoro Dwinantoaji, and you can call me Hastoro. I came from Indonesia. Studying in Japan had been my dream since I was an undergraduate student at the School of Nursing Faculty of Medicine Gadjah Mada University (UGM) in Indonesia.

I am really enjoying and feeling good my life in Kochi because everybody here is so helpful and really friendly. From April 2015, I am studying in doctoral course for disaster nursing at the Graduate School of Nursing University of Kochi for five years. Life at Kochi is really amazing. It would be really difficult to elaborate my feelings in such a limited space.

The first month after I came to Japan was the hardest time, since I was not able to speak Japanese fluently at that time, and not many people around me communicated in English. This language barrier made it so hard for me to communicate in order to start a new life in a new environment. However, the University of Kochi helped me to overcome it. The language classes are great for daily survival and I fought hard with the aid of friends.

A typical weekday begins with an early rise (especially if I have a lecture first period). I start off with my personal devotions and a quick breakfast to university for first lectures by 9 AM; it is quite convenient from the apartment, just on foot. At lunch time, I socialize with classmates, senior, and university staff at the spacious cafeteria and we go over the day's classes and practice our Japanese and English, the mix languages. At the day's end, we have a brief group study and deliberate over our research and assignments.

This concludes with a group dinner which lasts longer on more stressful days. When I return home, I go over my remaining duties, make out the plans for tomorrow and have a much deserved rest.

My weekends are very valuable. I spend it having a good rest, playing sports or hanging out with friends from other institutions. When I am not doing any of the above I take a short trip to explore the hidden wonders of Japan. I decided to do my best to get things done. It took me two whole months to get used to living alone, away from my beloved family, and to doing all necessary things by myself.

Many of my relatives and friends said that the first year of university is the hardest as normally students are not yet used to anything in their new environment. The professors and other faculty members are also very kind and supportive of the students and their research-based curriculum really helps us to be able to participate in research and gain experience directly from them.

We surely can find out what our passion is and what we like to study here. On the other hand, experience will make even better stages each time and I think I will be able to be more confident. Both knowledge and experience are important for my dream career.
