Article, "Role of Nepali Nurses in Disaster Risk Reduction" published in UNMGCY-SPI Magazine.

Article entitled “ Role of Nepali Nurses in Disaster Risk Reduction. A need for capacity building” written by Suhila Paudel, one of the new students of DNGL Kochi, has been accepted and published in special DRR edition of the Youth Science-Policy Interface Publication coordinated by the UN Major Group for Children & Youth(UNMGCY-SPI), launched at UNISDR Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction on May 2017. The SPI publication sought to capture and promote the role of young people in sharing knowledge of evidence-informed best practices, discussing the role of science/technology/engineering, identifying emerging trends (challenges and opportunities), and communicating solutions for the implementation, monitoring, follow-up and review of Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. This article gives the view regarding EpiNurse project in Nepal, led by Dr. Sakiko Kanbara, Associate Professor of DNGL. It reflects the works of Nepali Nurses as “EpiNurse” in monitoring health of people after Nepal Earthquake 2015, and focuses on the challenges and recommendations that might be beneficial to nursing practice in terms of enhancing roles of nurses and capacity building in disasters, and enabling national and global policy makers to deal more effectively in order to promote Disaster Risk Reduction.
